Peat & sand is what many Cacti and Succulent plant books suggest people use to pot their plants. But oddly enough, so do most carnivorous plant books! I don't think the environments could be more different, one is a bog and the other a desert. Yet the same soil mix is suggested! lol In general t...

I built something just like that for my C & S in May. Mine is 48" L x 24" W x 72" tall. With 3 shelves, 4x 40 watt lamps over each shelf a few inches away from the plants. The only suggestion I'd make to your sketch is to get some sorta air circulation going on cos the shelf is wa...

I like to use pots based on the plants root system for most things this means shallow or rather 2.5" x 2.5" x 2.5" pots and I let the plants go until they seem to be crowded in there. I figure that if they grow in nooks and crannies a small pot might simulate that tight niche in the w...

Yes Daiv, I suppose I should add that I use either Reverse Osmosis or distilled water for my plant spraying. Who knows what nasties are in my tap water, so I save that for me and the cats to drink! :D

I spray my plants quite often, I've started "watering" some of my Mesembs (Lithops relatives) only by just spraying and not actually watering the soil. They are doing better than when I was watering the soil and not misting. Some plants live on the coast and rarely if ever get real rain bu...

LOL! Just go into Napa and ask for "Floor Dry" instead of by part number. Or just locate the cases of Oil and walk the aisle.

Lancer all you gotta do is time how many days each pot takes to dry out - if you haven't dumped them out already.

I use Napa Floor Dry grit and Cherrystone chicken feed Grit. About 50/50. The Napa is expanded diatomaceous earth that soaks up water (or oil slicks in the garage!) but it retains water slightly longer than Cherrystone or pea gravel alone would so plants can get a decent drink before going bone dry ...

Shortening/hiding an Aztekium graft stock?

I've got a grafted Aztekium ritteri that I would like to cut the graft stock shorter (down to 1" or so) and hide it under the soil mix & top dressing so just the Aztekium is showing. The Aztekium is about 2" in diameter and loaded with offsets along the ribs but I really hate the look ...

Hey man, thanks for posting about these. I can't help much with ID but I have that same last plant and probably the S. citriformis or more likely your unnamed. However the leaves on mine have red/purple candy striping on them, the stems is also reddish purple. The deep colors came after putting it a...

Many of my succulents that bloom under lights make lots of nectar on their flowers and stalks. I'd say it just means your plants are happy. :D

Very nice! I like fragrant roses.

I hate it that the new thing seems to be scentless roses. I see a lot of nice looking rose plants (not sure how they'd do in a big pot on my patio) but none are fragrant. What's the point I wonder of doing that.

I put all my CPs outside with my succulents, so far they've mainly caught cottonwood fluff. It's been floating around for weeks! :(
