Re: No good Lophophora books?

Thank you Aiko and 7george for those links. Aiko I have heard of the Kaktusy Lophophora special issue, but I have not been able to find it anywhere.

7George, that link you sent is great, thanks again.

No good Lophophora books?

The longer I have been in this hobby the more I have come to appreciate specific cacti. I imagine at one time or another we all stumble onto Lophophora. It is an absolutely beautiful plant with a rich, and sometimes complicated history, and to me personally a very interesting cactus from a botanical...

Are you leaving the heat mats on over night?

I know this is a very basic question, but I am curious if you fellow seed growers are leaving your heat mats on 24/7 or you have an overnight cooling period? I know many species have different needs but is there a general thought on this matter?

Re: Natural looking Lophophora trichomes

Thank you for all of your replies. Neither of these plants are in my care, I just wanted to show the obvious difference in the trichomes.

Do you think most natural clays would be safe to apply to cacti?

Re: Natural looking Lophophora trichomes

The first photo is obviously a cacti in habitat but this is what I would consider a natural looking trichome on a Lophophora. The second photo is what I would consider very domesticated and not the aesthetic I am interested in. I guess I am just tossing out ideas as far as the clay bath goes. I have...

Natural looking Lophophora trichomes

I was curious how you encourage your tufts/ trichomes to look more natural in cultivation? Is anyone experimenting with different methods? Perhaps applying wet clay or flooding your lophs in a clay bath? Just looking for any advice if anyone is doing this. thank you all.

Is it a safe time of year to still be cutting pups?

Hello everyone. I was curious if it is still okay to be cutting pups from the mother plant? Do I need to wait until spring or is it safe to be performing this now?

Re: Wintering cacti to encourage flower growth questions.

I greatly appreciate all of your advice. I guess I should say I am all about hard grown plants. Not watering cacti is no problem for me and I know Copiapoa and Lophophora can handle that anyways. I do have a good sized greenhouse but I am concerned it might be a little too cold during the height of ...

Wintering cacti to encourage flower growth questions.

Hello all of you Xerophiles, I wanted to seek some wisdom from the seasoned growers. A very big mission of mine is to produce seed, lots of seed. I want to be dialed in with growing seedlings, but obviously if you don't have seeds then there are no seedlings. I want to be self sufficient and hopeful...

At what point/ temps are you bringing in your Cactus?

I know Cactus can withstand much colder conditions than most people realize, but I am curious at what temps most people are bringing your Cacti indoors? I have all my cactus in a greenhouse but I don't want to take any chances. I mostly have Copiapoa, Eriosyce, and Loph species. I know Copiapoa and ...

Dave I really appreciate your post. As a somewhat newer cactus grower I am always trying to become a little more aware of effects we all have on habitat. Thank you
