Re: Please help me ID this Gymnocalycium

This can be some G. castellanosii or even G. mostii, but not a pflanzii for sure. Even G. nigriareolatum is possible despite of multiple centrals. Thank you! I think most likely castellanosii as well. The ribs/tubercles do not look at all like the pflanziis I have but I wondered if maybe it had jus...

Please help me ID this Gymnocalycium

This guy is not in the best shape...please ignore the orange spots - I'm doing my best to treat them with a fungicide and an insecticide. Initially I thought it was pflanzii or maybe castellanosii? I'm not really sure. It seems puffed up a bit unnaturally...I think it might have been overfertilized....

Re: Gymnocalycium baldianum?

Not sure if this is helpful but I have recently been seeing an increasing number of Gymno hybrids in garden centers. G. baldianum certainly looks right (those flowers will help to confirm) but it's also possibly a hybrid.

Re: Stenocereus griseus 'Phil McCracken'

Aks Miles, he problably knows the story, he has named a few of those weirdos himself ;-) You hit the nail on the head. With Miles' permission, this is what he told me: Phil can be grown on its own roots but it is slow to root and grows even slower. Stenocereus Phil McCracken popped out of the side ...

Re: Tebuconazole and Trifloxystrobin: safe for very small cacti seedlings?

I have used a product that contains Tebuconazole to control fungus in seed pots and found it quite effective. I have had very high (near 100% with good seed) germination rates when using it so I know it isn't harming that. I've sprayed it on seedlings before and not seen any downsides. I always foll...

Re: Stenocereus griseus 'Phil McCracken'

Aks Miles, he problably knows the story, he has named a few of those weirdos himself ;-) That's a good idea. I was going to bother him about it but I hesitated because know he's super busy right now with spring orders, and I figured other members might also be curious. When I follow up with him I'l...

Re: Propagation of asterias from seed

Another update Dude they look fantastic. Variegated asterias grow very slowly. Seeds were sown in 2015 but seedlings are just 10 mm in diameter. 10 seedlings were repotted in 5 cm square tubes yesterday. That's amazingly slow. They are beautiful and your patience and care is an inspiration as always.

Stenocereus griseus 'Phil McCracken'

Hi all, I just ordered this bad boy from Miles2Go, but I know hardly anything about it. I've tried the search but I can't seem to find much information. 1. HISTORY: What's the story behind this cultivar? Is it named after the sculptor or someone else? Was it perhaps a single naturally-occurring mons...
