Re: Photo of Pediocactus simpsonii seeds needed

On some of my seeds, I have pierced them right at the hilum with greatly improved results on Scleros. Plus sterilizing everything including the seeds

Re: Where did everyone go.

Astrophotography in the Utah deserts gives me the best of both worlds, Cacti in habitat during the day and Bortle Class 1 dark skies at night. Desert cacti are blooming over the next month or so. My outdoor plants are growing like natural plants. Very happy in the south facing garden. Dozens of bloo...

Re: Possibly a mamillaria fishhook ?

That would be my guess, too. I'm fairly familiar with all the Sclerocactus fishhook species and that isn't one, IMO.

Re: Photo of Pediocactus simpsonii seeds needed

No seed pics found, yet. They may be in my cactus tool kit bagged up. Or in the freezer. Hmmm? The seeds...not the pics.

As a consolation, here's a pic of one of the parent plants in my front yard cactus garden.

Re: Photo of Pediocactus simpsonii seeds needed

I have a number of Pediocactus Simpsonii specimens in my collection and have given away seeds from them . My experience is that what you're showing in the photos are indeed PS seeds. The fruits ripen and contain more "jelly" than say Opuntia or sclerocactus seed pods. The fruits slowly tur...

Re: Three States, Four Cactus Nurseries Road Trip!

I actually had another trip down to St. George, UT with my wife to enjoy some almost 70F sunny weather over Presidents day weekend. And yes, I hiked the desert, took pics and visited two nurseries. Both were Star Nursery. Ended up buying several Agaves. A.parryi, A. Parryi truncata, A. Montana, and ...

Re: Is this rust or frost damage?

I'm using Copper Sulfate spray and hope that and approaching warm weather will knock it out. Two applications so far and another this afternoon.

Re: Three States, Four Cactus Nurseries Road Trip!

AGR - yeah, the Nevada Power and Light company picks a huge chunk of land for the next solar power farm and opens the doors for NV residents to purchase and dig all the plants. Then after a week or so they open it to commercial nurseries to dig the rest. Then they plow everything left under. And it'...

And now I'll send you a PM with a pic.

Re: How to insert and image in a PM?

The only way I know how is to select the image icon ...the 9th icon above the text block which looks like a sun and mountain ...in a reply and you'll see : img[]img....and then you'll need to have your images hosted on an online site. Go to that site, click the image, copy the image address, paste i...

Re: New growth on top of Ech. grus. What is it?

UPDATE: The pups are still growing and getting bigger. The mainstem ....not so much. The mainstem is now in sad shape. Lots of discoloration and soft dead/dying flesh on one side. Time to attempt a pup salvage of as many as possible to perhaps save one or two of the twelve. I poked the dark parts an...

Re: Is this rust or frost damage?

Wrong place for frost or sunburn. My money is on rust. It could also be that you watered on a sunny day and the water droplets focused the sunlight causing burns, but if that's the case my money is on the burns having opened the skin allowing rust to take hold. Thanks for the response. I did a litt...
