Re: Cultivation of a Dioscorea Elephantipes.

Does anyone remember the incident I had with the beautiful Sylvatica and the night I had too much rhum ?. Probably not. Since I killed that one I have been looking for a reasonably priced replacement. 6 months ago I found these 3 on e-bay. Discorea Sylvatica. These look more like an elephants foot m...

Re: Cultivation of a Dioscorea Elephantipes.

I acquired these 2 Elephantipes a year ago. The grew a vine right awat. It was stunted and the leaf growth was minimal. They went dormant 2 months later. Again, the cooler weather has seemed to stimulated them and its vine growing time again. 20230906_164711.jpg 20230906_164719.jpg 20230906_164818.j...

Re: Cultivation of a Dioscorea Elephantipes.

My original elephantipes when dormant fort the first time since I acquired it. This lasted 3 months. 3 weeks ago we still had temps that averaged 115°f during the day and in the low 90's f at night. Then the Hurricane hit . Temps dropped to the high 80's f during the day and the low 70'sf at night. ...

Re: Cultivation of a Dioscorea Elephantipes.

It has been a long time. Over the past 9 months I lost all of the small Dioscorea to the heat. The Mexicana has survives. The Vine from last year finally died off 5 months ago and it popped a new on with in a month. That one tried to grow and it made it to the top shelf and started to open leaves. T...

Re: My GreenHouse Build.

Keith. I figure the 2 are at least 40 yrs old if not older. Who ever the grower is, they have a huge supply of plants this size. My guy in Desert Hot Springs has 4 on his grounds right now. He claims that they have been cultivating them for years. They just brought them up from the main nursery in F...

Re: Reviving 2 Saguaro Plants

Saguaro are endemic to Arizona and highly protected. You need to have a permit to dig one up and move. You need to have a license to sell. Cost is usually $100 per foot. Add in delivery cost and a 3 to 4 ft plant sells for $600. The taller they are the more expensive the per foot price is. The issue...

Reviving 2 Saguaro Plants

When I moved out here to Indio Ca, I immediately got bitten with the idea of acquiring a Saguaro. That idea was squashed when it became apparent the prices for mature plants are just way above anything I was willing to pay. A year later the 3 Home Depots all received 5 each 3ft Saguaro's. But at $59...

Re: My GreenHouse Build.

Thanks Jerry... I'll explore it for later use. The suggestion of soap came from 2 guys that are heavy into the Trich Clone community and big growers. Their soil conditions are similar to mine being in the Yucca Valley. 10 degrees cooler but still hot and dry,
