I think that’s a myth to keep poachers at bay. Seems like every story is successful.greenknight wrote: ↑Wed Oct 12, 2022 10:52 pm Saguaros cuttings are difficult to root, while the species is easily grown from seed, so cuttings are rarely seen.

Re: Desert Sand for cactus Mix?
Pumice and potting soil is a pretty adequate mix for me. Or spend a lot of time to get those fines out or you end up with a concrete like substrate.

Nice to see the site back. I guess Bonap is showing natural habitat? showing the whole state isn’t real helpful for cold hardiness, ex: littoralis I don’t expect to have a chance at my local.

Can get a good idea here too

Various engelmannii, polyacantha and basilaris have been the toughest opuntias for me, though basilaris are very sensitive to watering.
Cylindropuntia ramosissima, bigelovii, fulgida and imbricata all do well

If a cactus grows slower because of it or produces fewer flowers, is it then considered an unhappy cactus? I have a few (Cereus Peruvianus Monstrose Minor, Mammilaria Elongate Cristat...

Re: Do you like cristate or monstrose forms in cacti?
I adore them. I don’t find normal growth boring, but definitely appreciate them more. Especially finding them growing in habitat, have come across multiple cylindropuntia, saguaro, cardon. Fan crests just can’t be beat, high on my list of things to look at. I’d also gladly take care of an animal wit...

I don’t water until they root, roots are what take up water. You also don’t have to plant the cut, keep it out in the open, it will kick off normal growth.
