bartab wrote: Fri Aug 16, 2019 12:05 am Truly awesome. Thanks. And the pottery! Wish I knew where to find pottery like those in the pics.
I know some of the potters whose work is featured in these pictures, so if there are any pots in particular you're interested in, I might be able to point you in the right direction.

Re: I've been to the InterCity Show and Sale-And?

There still is a bit of a different tradition to showing in the USA than in the UK. In the past we regarded a cactus show as a plant show and things like the container or pot were not taken into consideration as long as it was clean and neat and not chipped or broken, so standard clay or plastic po...

Re: Pictures from Inter-City Show

I saw the closest thing to a feeding frenzy at the Miles2Go table. It was crazy! Yes, Miles' table is a major attraction for most people! I don't like to get in the scrum. I mostly raid Plantaseca's table, and Rob Roy is one of my favorite vendors, though if you're in Riverside, you can go visit hi...

Re: Pictures from Inter-City Show

Hi Tim So you went to the show to buy. Out of curiosity why? As I mentioned in my post about the show, I can find everything I saw at the show for sale at retailers here in Los Angeles. Plus, what can also be bought from on-line sellers and if need be, e-bay,etsy etc. My understanding is that most ...

Re: Looking for a copy of Teratopia (or a similar book)

That's great! LACSS is a friendly club, very social, good speakers, and there's always a lot of food and vendors selling plants and pots. Visitors and new members get a free plant. If you visit at one meeting and join at the next, you get two free plants!

Shane, if you like mutants, you should come to the Los Angeles Drought Tolerant Plant Festival this weekend at the Sepulveda Garden Center! (Maybe you already know about it?) The theme this year is mutants: monstrose, crested and varietated planes.

Re: Relentless Mealybugs

Mealy bugs on the surface or spines of a cactus usually appear as an elongated oval of bright white fuzz. When you pluck them off, either with tweezers or your finger, they pop and emit a dark red fluid. If you're not seeing the red juice, you either don't have mealy bugs, or your mealy bugs are alr...

Re: Relentless Mealybugs

Are you sure you're dealing with mealy bugs on this cactus, or could it just be the normal fuzz that many cactuses produce to protect new growth? Maybe I'm blind, but I don't see any mealies in the close-up pic you provided. When you "catch" one of these mealies with your Q-tip or tweezers...

Re: Help identifying an unusual Echinopsis?

Thanks for the suggestions! I try to get as close as I can with species names, since I show at CSSA shows and identification is a significant part of the score. I'm OK with entering plants as hybrids, but I know I'll get a get some flack for laziness if the judges can identify it as a known species....

Re: Help identifying an unusual Echinopsis?

The flower does look a bit like Lobivia jajoiana (aka Echinopsis marsoneri)! I had looked through the Lobivias as well, but haven't yet found one that came close to this stem color and spination.

Help identifying an unusual Echinopsis?

Hi everyone! I picked up this unlabeled cactus a couple of weeks ago at the local nursery, as it seemed rather unusual to me. With the ridged form and the fuzzy buds, I thought it must be an Echinopsis. But after combing through all the databases, I can't find one that has this dark green/violet col...

Re: Germination

I can't speak for your seeds specifically, but I've had fresh seed that only germinated after three months in the bag, and right after we had a 115°F day, so it's always possible that some of those seeds are waiting for a particular growing condition to get started.

How much has rotted? If any part of it is still firm and healthy, you can always cut back to that and try to re-root the cutting.

Re: Branching out pilosocereus.

Well, nothing is ever a sure thing in cactus cultivation. But pachycladus does like to ramify from the base, so there's a decent chance topping it or hot-nailing it would force that to happen.
