Re: Rooting euphorbia virosa cutting
I had an Opuntia I bought off of ebay a couple years ago. I got it in early summer. Put it in a pot with some cactus mix. But for the most part never put it into the direct sun because I figured since it had no roots it would dry out and burn in no time. It never rooted even into the following spri...

Re: Rooting euphorbia virosa cutting
Thanks for the suggestions. I have zero experience w/ grafting. Will try to cut the dead tissue away first.

Rooting euphorbia virosa cutting
Hi, I've tried rooting this cutting of - possibly - E. virosa for a year but no success. Tried rooting hormone powder, putting it in soil for the longest time. Here is a photo of the bottom of the cutting. More patience, give it another year? Cut off a small section of the bottom again, dry and try ...

Euphorbia viguieri questions
Hi all, I have a question on E. viguieri. It seems that there a few variants - var. capuroniana and var. ankarafantsiensis. What's the major differences between these variants? I found some photos online of var. capuroniana that branches, but mine has grown for 10 or so years and only started produc...

Re: Looks a bit like e. knuthii, but not quite
I don't think E. knuthii grows a central stem like that so that rules it out for me. www.euphorbia.de is usually a very good reference but it seems like it's down. Does anyone know why? Shame if it's taken down.. it was the go-to site for Euphorbia identification for me.

Re: Huernia soil and sun
Agree, less organic soil and moderate shade for me. They turn reddish when exposed to too much sun. Cuttings root easily for me too so always try to root cuttings in case of root rot.

Re: Asclepiad seeds
I got ten Raphionacme seeds from an Italian seller, botanical-archive on Ebay. Two have germinated already in less than three weeks. They seem to list a lot of asclepiad seeds regularly, though nothing new since the 10th of August. You can arrange the "Items for sale" list for "Newly...

Useful, thanks! One Windowsill wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 8:51 pm It can be done by hand, though a hand lens is probably necessary unless you are as short-sighted as I am.
The best guide is probably this one:

Re: Asclepiad seeds
No, Asclepiads are easy in culture and also easy to propagate by cuttings without sawing. I think seed producing is harder for those and requires insect pollination. That is why seeds are expensive. Ah, no wonder then. I assumed that they can be easily hand pollinated but from what I just researche...

Asclepiad seeds
Anyone knows a reliable source of Asclepiad (Stapelia, Orbea, Huernia, etc.) seeds? From my limited research, It seems that they are somewhat scarce compared to other succulent seeds and, when available, generally more expensive. Does anyone know if this is due to difficulty in cultivation of Asclep...

Re: Agave cultivation help
The roots of the top one looked good and growing too. I took the photograph after trimming them. I guess could there be an explanation for healthy growing roots but sickly growth above ground?
