Clovers near my cacti

Hi all!! Not sure if this is the right category. If not I do apologies. I have a concern. It’s that season where clovers pop up anywhere they can. They are all at the base of my cacti. I don’t want to use any over the counter chemicals to rid of them as I’m not sure how my cacti might react. Any nat...

Orange seedlings

Good day!
I have a question. I’m currently growing Parodia Erubescense from seed. Using a custom substrate and a heat pad in a greenhouse. I got these seedlings in about a week and a half. This is my first time sowing seeds. Just have a question. Why are some orange? Is this normal?

Thank you!!

Gymnocalycium Moserianum weird colors

Hello all! I have a question with my Gymno Moserianum I acquired it bare root a month ago and planted it in well draining substrate. Everything is fine but I see it’s changing colors here and there. It’s not getting 100% direct sun it’s west facing under a shade cloth. All of it’s nearby friends are...

shriveled echinocereus subinermis violet

Good day all. I have a question. I acquired this cactus a few months ago and had it in a shaded (approx 50% shade) area it seems to be a bit shriveled and soft to the touch. I do water it (zone 10b) about once every week and a half but can't get it to plump back up. Its still producing beautiful flo...

You may be interested in Paul Klaassen's diaries of his trip to Baja then? Paul is a Dutchman now living in England and usually visits different habitats every year. As his last post is always at the top of the list if you want to read them in chronological order you need to scroll right down to th...

Re: Saguaro? Pringlei?

At least you will have a juvenile specimen of the tallest living cactus, though there have always been disputes as to which was the tallest. Pachycereus pringlei usually grows taller than Carnegia gigantea, but Carnegia is a more massive plant, therefore the heaviest cactus. However whether it was ...

Re: Saguaro? Pringlei?

Rats! I was so hoping it was going to be a saguaro and was excited about its growth rate. Granted I knew it wasn't going to be like the picture perfect saguaros of Arizona in my lifetime, but still was excited that it was growing quite nice. Either way its a beautiful specimen and excited to see it ...

Re: Saguaro? Pringelii?

Thank you for the responses.
I was looking at that line between the areoles and only saw that on the Pringlei and not so much on the saguaro, but I also saw that the Prinlgei is more crowded with spines than the saguaro. I am leaning more towards it being a Pringlei.

Saguaro? Pringlei?

Good day all! I acquired this cactus about last year and was told it was a Saguaro. It was about 45cm its now about 70cm in 1 year. I was under the impression that Saguaro's grow rather slow a few cm's in years. So now I'm not sure if it is a Saguaro? Or does the slow growth apply in the wild where ...

California Red Barrel?

Hello all!

I acquired these 2 huge red barrel cacti from a friend's property a few months ago. They're in ground now and blooming flowers. I tried to do some research as to what they are. I think they're ferocactus cylindraceus?
What do you all think?

Re: Big cuttings

It's OK if they shrivel somewhat. That's a normal reaction to not having roots and not being able to take up water sufficiently. They are succulent (adjectival) and will withstand some shriveling. If such a large section of the plant fell naturally outside, it would lie on the dry ground in the lik...

Re: Big cuttings

Thank you for the response. Yeah I’ve callused cuttings longer before, but will 1. Waiting longer dehydrate the cutting? Being that it’s in the peak of summer (even in shade) 2. Will planting them in ground now or a week or 2 from now cause them get sun burnt spots easier since they haven’t develope...
