you can´t graft seedling to an unmature seedling, let them grow up and then graft to the mature M. geometrizans stock.

it does look like it could be a Consolea starting
a new trunk,have to wait and see if it puts on
some pads.
I agree. Some Consolea and also Opuntia species form new trunk from the rooted pads.
