Re: Hana's cacti

G'morning Mrs. Green, The first asterias ( photo 1) I find to be incredible beautiful! How old is this plant? It is a 6 years old miracle kabuto. Flecking shapes are similar to petals of cherry flower and areole shapes are similar to rice which is evidence of miracle kabuto. The mutation of flecking...

Re: Hana's cacti

G'morning keith,

Thanks for your comment.
I stopped to sow seeds of Astrophytum for a while but I will sow asterias seeds in this year if I could harvest seeds.

Re: Hana's cacti

It was not zero but I lost just several young miracle kabutos in this winter which means better than last winter. Earlier watering stop may work well. I took 3 photos of young miracle kabutos yesterday afternoon. They are young but seeds were sown in 2013. They are around 8 cm in diameter, flowering...

Re: Hana's cacti

I selected 6 Astrophytum hybrid, fukuryu banjyaku for the repotting. Currently they are in 5 cm square tubes but it seems too tight for them. New pots are 6.5 cm square pots. Photo 1: 6 fukuryu banjyaku in 5 cm square tubes Photo 2: on of them I will remove several off-sets from Photo 3 and root in ...

Re: Hana's cacti

G'morning Mrs. Green, May I ask how long you have been interested in/ growing cacti? I was born in 1948 and it will be a long story if I told all but I can tell a summary. My cacti collection was interrupted several times due to mainly relocation of living places. 1st collection was quite short, jus...

Re: Hana's cacti

Just one asterias shows this form in my place, which is shown on the attached photo. As I described before, a miracle kabuto was crossed with a dream kabuto to increase quantity. The asterias has fluffy flecking with dream kabuto's pattern which has never occured mutation. The body shape is a 7 ribs...

Re: Hana's cacti

A standard asterias has 8 ribs. Seedings and young plants have symmetrical body shapes. It is possibly mixed other Astrophytum gene if a seedling had more than 8 ribs. On ther other hand, some of old asterias are added number of ribs and turned to multi-ribs asterias. Photo 1: Young asterias with 8 ...

Re: Hana's cacti

Today's photos are normal old asterias. Normal asterias show the best looking when they are around 10 years old. Older than this age may shows an abnormal body shape. Two asterias on photos are very old, sown seeds in 2003. They are stopped watering from May. Photo 1: 16 cm in diameter, 13 cm tall P...

Re: Hana's cacti

G'morning Mrs. Green, Do they have the same parents, all of them? Or rather do the plants in picture nr.1 have the exact same parents? In other words, are they true siblings? All cacti on the photo No. 1 are rooted off-sets. My freind gave me seeds and so I do not know the history of seeds. Since th...
