New Front Yard

Post by Buck Hemenway »

So, we're finally getting it started. We've been talking about this for over 10 years, and finally, last week it really got going. The grass is dead in the first pic. We tried for 4 months to give the olive tree away with no results. No one wanted to transport it. So, olive tree gone, two truckloadsof granite boulders, with one to come and we're on our way to creating the "Two Worlds Garden". That's old and new worlds with specimen sized cacti and aloes in particular.

Pictures to follow as the project ramps up.

Looks like a great start Buck! I already like the look :D

How long till ya sell off the lawn mower  although with grass like that, you probably sold it awhile ago ;)

Thats probably one of the greatest features of a rock garden...no more lawn mowing!! Maybe one day i will follow suit.

Hey Buck -That is quite a project -it is going to be fun to follow along with you on this. We'll sit back and enjoy seeing the results of all your sweat and tears. But hey, we can relate!

Buck- amazing transformations coming to your piece of the planet, really looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds. If I could just talk my landlord into ditching the insane grass lawn and letting me restore the desert, I'd jump at the chance. But he's convinced the lawn adds resale value to the house...

I guess that's the reason why we're doing it now. We've made the decision that this is our place for the long term, so we don't really give a . . . about the resale price.

I killed the grass earlier this year in anticipation. Those who were here in March remember the nice green lawn and will see desert next March.

The transformation is looking great so far Buck. I have no doubt your place will be the envy of the neighborhood.

Resale depends on the buyer, all it takes is the right person

Hi Buck, this is great to see, and it'll look far better than grass... it's already enhanced the look of your home! :D
I'm just starting a similar process and putting in a new rockery, (smaller scale then yours), so half my back lawn will go!

Finally, this weekend, we'll start planting in our new garden. Here's a sample of the final rough grading of the yard. A few sprinklers and some pathway material on Saturday morning and we'll be planting by afternon. Here's the progress so far.

Wow, that is quite the transformation. I love the new modern look of the house, with the lack of paneling. It made it look modern, and fancy. The new terrian, and gardens looks amazing.
