Is this a disease?

Hello everyone,

I was given this cacti by my niece, although it is not my cup of tea; however, of late it has developed a silvery tinge in places and I am wondering what it is. if it is a disease, how should I treat it.

It looks like a severe case of spider mite infestation to me, but I can't be sure.
