chamaecereus luisramirezii repot

My chamaecereus luisramirezii was starting to send out roots on a few of the arms and it's in a 2 inch pot. I wanted to put it in a pot where it could take root. I didn't have a 3 inch pot so I put it in a 5 inch hanging pot that's 2.5 inches deep. The soil that I used is about 80% grit and my succulents are doing great in it. I was wondering if it will be to big a pot for the cactus and not dry out quick enough? I just repotted it today.

Size of the pot will not present any problems for the plant. Your C. luisramirezii could use more light, though.

The cactus is big enough that it should fill that pot with roots before long. Be extra careful with watering for the first year or two - make sure it's really thirsty before you water it.

Usually that spot is very sunny, it's a south facing window but I have a small plant LED light from a 2 gallon aquarium that I'm going to put above it when I get the hardware for it. The cactus has grown quite a bit where it is.

I have been watering it every 20 days give or take a day. It has been sending out a lot of roots in search of soil.

This time of year it should be dormant, give it little if any water until spring.

Should I cut out the water even though it's growing?

If you can't provide the cool temperatures recommended you should still try to force it into dormancy by withholding water.

If you can't keep it cold enough it may need a dribble of water once a month or so to keep the roots alive, but the ideal would be to keep it cold once it gets dry (they can even take some frost when dry) and give no water at all - that's the way to get the most abundant flowers.
