I have recently grafted a mamm. Ortega on a pachanoi.
I am having a tough time locating tips and info about grafting onto pachanoi and also the care tips after freshly grafting a cactus.
Does anyone have any information on grafting and its aftercare?
Grafting tips and care
Re: Grafting tips and care
The basics of grafting are the same, regardless of what rootstock you use. So this means clean tools, even between cuts, maximizing contact between the vascular bundles of scion and rootstock (be sure both are healthy and in full growth), somehow holding the scion down on the rootstock while it bonds, as well as keeping the humidity high during this bonding process. I keep the humidity up by putting new grafts inside a larger, clear plastic storage container together with a dish of water and keep the lid closed. I keep the whole thing away from direct sun, but where the light is still very bright. After the scion is well bonded (takes about a week or so), taking care of the graft is just growing the rootstock as normal. Just be sure to acclimate to direct sun to prevent burning.
There are tons of instructional videos online, but I am a bit old fashioned and prefer written guides with pictures: https://www.kadasgardens.com/grafting2.html. Here's also some good tips that Hanazono recently provided for grafting seedlings on Pereskiopsis: https://cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=47958.
