Fockea edulis going dormant??

Post by absolute0 »

I've had a Fockea edulis for around two years already. August last year, there was a rat infestation in the building and the rats ate off the stems but the caudex was left intact. It has been left unwatered for six months. Since August until now, it never grew any new stems. I've tried to keep the medium moist but not wet, I've tried moving the pot to a shaded spot (the original location receives direct afternoon sunlight). There were times the stubs would start to go green but it'd just "dry up". Does Fockea edulis really go dormant or is mine dead?

Don't worry. I think it just takes it times. Some caudex plants can take a lot of time to wake up. Some of mine wake up only after half of the summer has passed already.

I just keep watering them in the (supposed) growing season, and just see what happens every year.
