Spring Flowers

Post by keith »

Getting warm now watered most of the cactus yesterday. Almost all of the collection has been transplanted to a 80% pumice mix. The turbinicapus pot has not seeing it reminding me I'm not quite done.

One of the cactus benches I am shooting it through the side behind 50% shade cloth to try and avoid over saturation of the picture. had to compress this image so much not sure how great it will turn out. Not that great .

Old Turbinicarpus jauernigii flowers in Winter. I did a little photo adjustments to the sharpness and color. Still looks a little washed out but it is a dull green plant. Easy from seed but slow. I have not killed too many of these so they can't be hard to grow. More root than stem.

Very nice collection, Keith, with some very desired plants. They all look great despite the compression of the photo.

Mammillaria lenta noticed quite a few flowers on these two cactus today. They flower off and on Late Spring through Summer , slow growers but not too difficult. I've had these two since AZ 2007. AZ cactus sales sold them and maybe still do ?

Lobivia flowering a bright red. One of my few S American cactus. I got this one from C&D cactus. They seem to grow well in the cooler weather where i live now not sure how they would do in a really hot climate ?

Lobivia usually go dormant in hot months. Most are mountain plants and like broad daily temperature fluctuations. After plants do some blooming in early spring months and I take pots outdoors where here is much cooler they revive and may do another bloom.

When I took this shot temperature was just 16 C, close to daily maximums in Calgary these days.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

Turbinicarpus knuthianus with flowers at the end of Summer. Not too hard to grow and they don't get big which is nice saves on space.

Lithops dinteri fredrichii which I got for free and maybe another species not sure I like the spots. Pretty hot today about 90 f with humidity.
