They are offsets
I cut off a bunch of them a couple years ago
and even through are big and flowering, no one buys them at the shows

Yes, it's an interesting phenomenon that I've also observed. I'm not professional grower but a hobbyist and I don't attend shows regularly but when I have excess seedlings that I want to get rid of I have most trouble selling (even if underpriced) Turbinicarpi, especially species that formerly belonged to the genus Gymnocactus. Last year I ended up giving away some T. viereckii and T. gielsdorfianus seedlings.
That is somewhat of a problem since approximately half of my collection consists of members of Turbinicarpus genus.
