Nice growth rate, I just sowed some williamsii x fricii a couple days ago. Might try grafting one if the germination rate is good enough

Graft or graft not!

There is no try.

The filial generation 1 typically has much less variation than the second filial generation so that is what excites me a bit more. Not that the first generation is not exciting to watch unfold as well.

Well in my case there was some trying and failing, but I'll do my best this time. I may have to finally do the parafilm thing, since my way didn't go all that well. Someone suggested it to me in my graft thread (might have been you) and I chose to ignore it at the time, which resulted in some unnecessary seedling sacrifices.

I hear you loud and clear. Almost everyone has a poor take rate when they first start grafting. It gets better with practice. And yes, it was I who suggested that you try the parafilm. Practice attaching peas to the eraser end of a pencil with parafilm and cacti seedlings will be easy.

The nice part of grafting with parafilm... no need to worry about bumping into your graft or elevating the humidity.

Ah I sowed some jourdaniana v. Mammillaris at the same time as my williamsii x fricii (koehres seeds?), I'll check in to compare mine once they sprout (hopefully)

Koehres currently has L. williamsii x Lophophora fricii filial generation 2.

L. williamsii x Lophophora fricii filial generation 1 had a little over 60% germination which I count as decent enough for hybrid seed. Not sure how your germination will go.

Perhaps it will go better with your germination of L. williamsii x Lophophora fricii.

I wish you luck with your Lophophora jourdaniana v. mammillaris as it appears to be a very beautiful specimen so far. The Lophophora jourdaniana v. mammillaris I posted is only a few months old right now, but I couldn't be happier as I like the brightly colored flowers one can get with some of these hybrids.
