Good afternoon all,

So I've had the cactus below for around two years, it's lived in the kitchen on the windowsill since day one, never in direct sunlight due to a conservatory attached to the kitchen. It's lightly water around every two weeks and has never really had any issues.

Only recently it appears to have some brown marks on the tips of the spikes for want of a better description. You can see it in the first image on the bottom left hand side.

Also recently I've noticed something growing from the soil around it, pictured in the second picture, anyone any ideas?

Lastly can someone say what type of cacti it actually is, anything I should be doing differently and will it ever grow larger in size? Maybe a larger pot first?

Hello and welcome!
In short, this is a mammillaria. From the looks of it it may etiolated just a tiny bit. It would grow a lot better with more light and some direct sunlight.
The brown spines are quite normal. I can't see clearly what's growing at the bottom but it looks like roots.
