First photo of 100 stem Echin. Trig. that I removed, trimmed to 12 stems, and trimmed the roots. I then planted in fresh soil. I've done this to several older cactus and it saved them. The old plants have a weak root system in my garden probably because the soil is not perfect.
The other photo is of a female Quail that took up living in my cactus garden. She is not afraid of me. I can get within one foot of her and she will not fly. I considered feeding her, but decided not to interfere.

Now I know why. The bird left the nest to get some food. I noticed 14 little eggs. That is a lot of eggs for a tiny quail.
