Is this soil too rich and damp?

Hello all,
Got this variegated Chiastophyllum oppositifolium yesterday at the car boot sale for .50p YAY!
I know it can grow outdoors in the UK, so its used to being damp, but I fear the soil is too damp and high in organic matter as it is roaming with woodlice that feed on decaying plant matter. Is this too rich a soil for it? It is very damp to the touch, and the dry newspaper that the pot was wrapped in as padding was throughly damp after a couple of hours from the soil.
I am such a newbie, any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Angela
