Its a form of germanic language much older than english, there are similar languages used around the world still, Cornish(kernow) is its closest sister language and gaelic have similarities but also it shares many worlds with some native american languages too surprisingly. It is a national language in Argentina and Chile in the patagonia region and has many fluent first language speakers in the USA as well. Also most may not be aware but JRR Tolkien use welsh as well as gaelic as a basis for the languages in his books, in particular the elves language is very similar.

The Scots have a Gaelic language too though English is the common language of Great Britain, just as it's the de facto common language in India. But Norman French was the English language in the 13th to the 15th century:-

Though at a personal level...bah humbug! 13 years worth of working a retail related job has forever ruined it for me I'm afraid.

I think Christmas is really just an excuse for over eating and the shops increasing their winter sales SnowFella. It has little to do with modern religions anyway since it is originally a pagan winter festival that they adopted. Some historians tell us he was born in September anyway, but nobody can be certain when he was born:-

Another example of modern religions adopting pre-existing pagan ceremonies is the rather gruesome Day of the Dead in S. America:-

All holidays were/are pagen holidays And festivals the Christians adopted these holidays and renamed them creating there own holidays (for their religion) because people were beginning to become pagans and the church couldn't have THAT! So they basically ripped off the pagans solstice ceremonies/holidays to get people to reform back to the church
