Bitten by the Cacti and Succulent Bug - My Collection

Post by kpj35 »

Hi Everyone,

I've been reading this forum for a while but don't often get around to posting anything, so I probably know most of you better than you know me. However, since the next semester is starting (I'm a prevet student currently completing my undergrad degree), I figured I'd better get around to posting my plants or it will never happen  Anyway, I began collecting cacti and succulents as a hobby about a year ago, and I have learned a lot along the way; and since I seem to have caught the cacti and succulent bug, I wanted to create this thread to track the progress of my plants and garner opinions about my current cultivation practices. So, without further ado, here they are:

Grow light setup - the screen is to keep my cats from destroying everything  This was my winter break project and included building a shelf that allows water to drain, a catch tray, the overhead lighting setup, and the screen, which I just finished today.

This is my little propagator where I am currently trying my luck at growing some mixed cacti seeds. The tupperware container on the bottom is filled with water and holds an aquarium heater, which is doing a nice job at keeping soil temps from 80-84 F.

Some seeds have sprouted already :D . Do they look too red to you? I have more light than is usually recommended for starting seeds, so I am thinking that I may need to shade them a bit...or I could just build a larger propagator with the correct amount of light and room for starting more seeds

Haworthia attenuata - I have had these forever. Unfortunately, the plant on the left was damaged by the cats :x

This is an interesting one, as it has two growth points on the rightmost plant.

Unknown cactus 1 is A Notocatus ( Parodia ) maybe Scopa ?

Unknown cactus 2 is Mammilaria Elongata

Unknown Hawortia 2 looks to be H. Cymbiformis

Unknown Euphorbia 1 looks to be Euphorbia Millii

and No 2 maybe Euphorbia. Suzannae Bupleurifolia

=^_^=

Could your Echinocactus Grusonii be a White spines form ?

And last but not least, my Tillandsia (not technically succulents, but interesting nonetheless :D ) Some are new additions and have some slight damage, but they should grow out of it soon. They are definitely the most needy of my plants, as they do best with daily misting and twice weekly watering.

That's about it, so feel free to post any advice or comments. If you can identify any of my unknown plants that would also be great, as most of these guys were not labelled when I bought them. Happy growing everyone!

Wow, thanks so much for the help - those ID's seem perfect! As for the echinocactus, I think it's just the picture making the spines look white. They do look yellow in person.
