This flowered this week for the first time. Very unusual flowers.
Any idea what it's called? Thanks.
Any idea what it's called?
Re: Any idea what it's called?
Cleistocactus (something)
Re: Any idea what it's called?
Perhaps C. brookeae ssp brookeae.
Re: Any idea what it's called?
the stem says C. strausii, the flowers say C brookeae.
Buying a cactus a day will keep the madness away.
Re: Any idea what it's called?
Cleistocactus brookeae as Phil says, often found under the synonym C. wendlandiorum. Related to C. vulpis-cauda which I think is at the other end of it's range in habitat from what I have heard.
Strange that when the stems become pendulous in both species the flowers still grow with that upward bend even though bending the opposite way to what they would if that stem were vertical.

The flowers can sometimes be a bit pinker rather than yellowish, probably tending more towards C. vulpis-cauda, although that tends to get pendulous quicker than C. brookeae. You can see in the following what I mean about the flowers reversing their direction on the stem when it hangs down so that they still bend upwards:-
