Lovely.
I have one Acanthocalycium glaucum waiting to flower too. Hardly wait.

So the Frailea pumila is an over-eager bloomer, eh? Really nice flowers--all of them!
Catch a falling star--but don't try it with a cactus!

After seeing these photos of your Sulcos, I feel I must rebuild that section of my collection. Every single one of them died this past winter. I guess they can't be without water the entire winter. Hope you enjoy the amazing morricalli as much as I enjoyed just looking at mine.

Re: Arjen's Collection 2013
I keep them dry all winter, so there must be another cause for them dying off
it's a known fact that dry winters are needed for these, otherwise they will etoliate and won't bloom
what were your growing conditions?

Re: Arjen's Collection 2013
I brought them all inside because of the new GH which had obviously loose fitting joints that let in snow and subfreezing (and occasionally subzero) temperatures. However, they were all inside before most of that awful weather arrived permanently. I had them on the unheated sunporch with no water. Even though it was unheated, I know some ambient warmth drifted in from the living room and adjacent bedroom, so the average temperature there was probably in the low 60s (17C?). It must have been too warm even then for them to be without water. They absolutely dried up. I'm now having a professionally built GH put in--very expensive but solid and air-tight. A small heater should be all that's needed for me to keep the inside temp during the winter no lower than 40-45F (4-7C?).Arjen wrote:I keep them dry all winter, so there must be another cause for them dying off

fanaticactus, they will probably do a lot better under those circumstances, make sure they are dry!

Very nice, showy, flowers-big compared to the plant!
A cactus and succulent collector who especially likes Ariocarpus. …Though I have a bit of everything! Want some pictures? See my flickr! I also do art and such.
