What can i do to help my echeveria setosa?

Post by stonedhearted »

When i first got it in march, it was a healthy little baby:

Then my mom left it in the living room in the dark for weeks and it started to die. When the weather started getting warmer i put it outside in the sun and the top started to grow back again

But as it grew taller the 'body' i guess i'll call it didn't grow back healthy

Why it is all brown is because it's rained a lot, and i now keep it and the rest of my plants inside until it gets sunny again because they have gotten way too much water.
What can i do to help it?

Smaller pot, better soil, and possibly chop it off. They grow pretty fast and cope with a fair amount of water in the summer but they'll still rot if they stay wet for too long, especially when it gets colder. Botrytis is a real problem in humid winters, although inside a heated home it may be more likely they'll just dry up.

They clump up pretty fast once they start growing so that might hide the bare stem. Otherwise you can chop it and root it fairly easily in the spring.

You can also take leaf cuttings from Echeverias! Unfortunately, E. setosa doesn't seem to be the easiest species. It can be done but there is a fine line between rotting the leaves and having them just dry up on you.

Cut off the head and plant it. It will or it won't work, but it's worth trying. I will keep my fingers crossed.
