Thanks Arjen and Darryl!
Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize that we cannot eat money.

The flower season is almost finished. Time to show you what happened in the past weeks.

Exceptionally good!
You sure know what you are doing - and have quite the collection.
I have never seen an Opuntia fragilis with such jolting color as that one. It'd stop traffic!

I want this one. Germany isn't that far away. It would only took me 1000 km to get to it. And another 1000 to get home.Ralf wrote:The flower season is almost over. Time to show you what happened in the past weeks.

Thanks you both!
MJ, there isn't any traffic around except of ants, birds and snails and they won't never stop therefor.

Thanks, John!
That's really strange, you're sowed grass and like mowing. I don't like mowing and remove the grass to have cacti in my yard.
I guess I'm more weird than you.

No, I think you are more normal. Most people I know don't like mowing.Ralf wrote:Thanks, John!

Depends on who you ask. My co-worker thinks none of us (cacti-lovers) is normal. At all.John C wrote:No, I think you are more normal. Most people I know don't like mowing.Ralf wrote:Thanks, John!

Your plants are top notch (meaning really good) - what a colorful and marvelous display for a cold bed.
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti

Re: Ralf's cold hardy cacti - the last of this season
Thanks, Daiv!
Cylindopuntia imbricata was the last flowers for this season. Now it's time to prepare for the winter rest.
In a couple weeks the plants will get potash fertilizer. Thereof they will finish their growth and stop storing water.
In further process they reduce the stored water to prevent burst by freeze.

Flowers are literally covering your opuntias! Nice garden too!
A cactus and succulent collector who especially likes Ariocarpus. …Though I have a bit of everything! Want some pictures? See my flickr! I also do art and such.
Re: Ralf's cold hardy cacti - the last of this season
What a display! Absolutely gorgeous! Do you have some sort of weed block material underneath the gravel etc.? You've really inspired me. And you have stopped watering already for the winter? Mmmm, I have a couple of Opuntias that I am going to experiment on leaving out this winter though I wasn't too optimistic as to whether they would resist the cold, so I have another couple in pots which I will take in so that if they do succumb I will not have lost all of them. We also get very cold up here in the winter so fingers crossed. Thanks for sharing your beautiful plants with us.

Thanks you both!
@Susi
Underneath the soil is a drainage and a weed blocker. If you follow the link to my website you'll find a detailed construction guidance.
click For my excuse it's not translated yet.
However the pictures are multi lingual.
For some general informations you can follow the second link. click
I can't stop watering, because they don't have any rain protection. They will get a rain shelter earliest in October.
If your plants in pots get a rain protection the chance that they survive is somewhat better.
