More blooms yesterday - including the night-blooming Echinocereus gentryii. Have to catch this open with the camera within the first hours of the morning or it's too late and closed up shut (usually by 10am).

With your plants growing in the landscape, do they require supplemental water and nutrients?

During the hotter parts of the summer here in the valley, I usually provide supplemental water when they look a bit stressed; but, I try to water as little as possible - I try to grow my plants "hard." That way, if I have to leave for a week or two, I don't have to worry about them surviving without me! = )
I've never done much fertilizing, but this year I decided to do a bit more, as folks tell me I'd probably get better blooming by doing so. So, I started fertilizing this spring - so far once a month. We'll see if it makes a different - things are certainly blooming so far!

stunning flower!

Several new bloomers this week so far as the color parade continues:

One repeat bloomer: Turbinicarpus alonsoi (worth another photo! ) This Mammillaria elongata bloomed with very pale pinkish flowers last year...this year, it's in a different mood! The flowers never did open completely, but this is my first Echinocereus dasyacanthus flower, so I'll take it!
It was impossible getting a photo without bees swimming in the anthers! My Mammillaria petterssonii var. saltensis (=M. apozolensis) is always one of my later Mamm's to bloom, and it is always a surprise; the flowers develop almost hidden in the woolly area until the last minute, then all of the sudden pop out! Tomorrow there will undoubtedly be a whole ring of flowers open! Lastly, my Yucca rigida is in full splendor now - each year it throws up more and more bloom stalks.

Echinocereus pentalophus - not the prettiest plant, but the blooms are amazing.

that's probably the most often heard comment from someone posting a picture of e. pentalophus lovely flower!

A couple new bloomers for me this week - probably a bit premature because they've both got plenty buds to go, but I can't resist sharing ones that bloom for the first time for me!

This is my first Noto to bloom ever, and boy is it a beauty! And the flowers on my first time bloomer Gymnocalycium saglionus didn't seem like they'd ever be able to get around the spines enough to open! And, they kinda didn't!! I hope the future ones yet to open get a better chance!

nice Tristian. My E. pentalophus is the ugliest plant I have. It lost some of its buds after it was blown off the shelf. I moved it and it's got two new buds.. just waiting for them to bloom

I've grown some pentalophus from seed and currently have one seedling grafted, I can't wait!

the flower colour on that noto is stunning!

Fantastic stuff, Tristan. My experience has been that dasyacanthus flowers never do open very widely. Yours look about as open as I have seen them in cultivation or habitat.

Interesting - and good to know! I was looking at the ones at the DBG last weekend and was thinking the same thing because theirs were only just as open as mine.
