Re: Minime8484's C&S Collection - 2012
Things are slowing down a bit now, but still a few lingering blooms.
My Ariocarpus fissuratus is trying desperately to bloom, but the thrashers have other ideas. I was finally able to salvage one flower without too much damage by placing a screen around it for a couple of days. My Fouquieria burragei is slowing down a bit, but the remaining inflorescences are all much pinker now. And, finally, last weekend was the DBG Fall Sale. As a tradition, I took off a day from work and made it into a full day of nursery shopping. In the end, I came home with 13 beautiful plants, including a Cleistocactus over 5ft tall for only $8! Fun times.

I know! And, although it was unlabeled as to species, I suspect it may be C. micropetalus - a green-flowered species I only have a small (damaged, but pupping) 6" cutting of currently!tumamoc wrote:Cleistocactus over 5ft tall for only $8!

There was a separate section at the DBG Sale for DBG-propagated plants (most plants at the sale are from 3rd party vendors).gemhunter178 wrote:Also, $8, how???
All of the plants in this section were incredibly low-priced - and this 5 ft Cleisto was priced at $10. I volunteer in the Hort Dept at the DBG, so got 20% off...which means I paid $8. Even at $10 it was a steal!
Others ridiculously cheap I got from that area (price before my discount):
Praecereus euchlorus - $2
Stenocereus alamosensis - $4

My Leuchtenbergia is not quite convinced it is Fall.
It's bloomed before in October, but never quite this profusely.
I'm down with that!

Nothing like color in the desert in November.
Cleistocactus winteri going strong (and trying to live up to its name!).
