My shelters

Post by jmdupuyoo »

Dear all,
I lived in south east of France near the sea (1,8km away). The climate is quiet correct but the winter could be wet. Last winter was very rainy and I lost several Ferocactus and Echinocactus. This is why I built two shelters and I am buiding the third one. Please find attached some pictures. The landscape is not finish.
I will add soon horticultural net and plastic to protect the plants from lateral winds and rains.Image

The last picture show the zone where I am building the third shelter.

Shelter are 3 to 4,5 meters wide, 1,5 to 2,5 meters tall and 2,5 meters large.

Looks great. I wish you many success and healthy plants next spring.
What's the lowest temperature at your place? Have you ever try it with some Echinocereus?

Thank you.

Our lowest temperatures was arround 10°F. Some Echinocactus thrive here but a lot has been destroyed by frost (in 1985). We also lost several globular last winter but because very wet winter.

I grown some Echinocereus without protection. But none are great apparence. I will plant some below the third shelter.

All the best!

Wow! Very impressive landscape! Nice work! Will you only use the shelter in winter?

Thank you.
The lowest shelter will be remove in April and will come back in october. The tall one won t- be remove but the plastic roof from April to October too. So the plants will get the rain during spring and summer.

I like your garden. It is lovely.
