Makes me wonder: does adding a signature later on also add that signature to older posts? In that case it may make sense to make a few posts first and then add a link to the signature.

Wish I had the technical expertise, but yes -- if all these bloody spams can be traced back to the same IP, blacklisting by the appropriate authority should be doable.
