Hope enough Time has passed, BRC, that health & $$ issues have eased a little. Hard to imagine being that "out of it" that even (the effort of) looking at your plants hasn't given some Solitude! These guys/gals are what keep me going thru the gray/non-working Winter -- even if most are in hibernation! Of course, there's the Winter batch of (baggied) seedlings -- which after initial prep, nuke, plant & seal -- is just more watching. Talk to 'em, they know you're "down" & try their best to cheer you up! :D

Hello hoteidoc

Things are a bit better health and money wise but you know, it's never a sure thing.

Well I've been roaming the forums again recently, and been catching up on the topics and peoples collections again :)

I can say right now that i don't have near the amount of cacti i used to have, you see, as a also fan of carnivorous plants, and after sharing a few photos with members i knew on some carnivorous forums, I've been spreading the spiny love around and been giving some of my plants some new homes, with responsible people and with proper potting soil hehe. Other unfortunately have been lost, either not making it through winter, or just dying on me in a matter of days :(.

I kept some of my favorites around, and i'm gonna start again next year with some new plants and some seeds! Space is always a factor hehe but i'm sure i can make it work yet again!!

Thanks for the cheer up :)

Hello, BRC!

You have a nice collections indeed! Your success inspires me greatly, because I grow my cacti in a flat also. Seeing those turbines growing nicely and even flowering really gives me hope that mine cacti will be ok in a long term...

I wish you and your cacti to be well and to leave behind all the problems bot with health and money. As hoteidoc said, plants are giving you their support even it they cannot speak as humans or puur like cats. They are still alive and love their grower.

Cheers!

Well, well, it's been awhile....

It's been at least 2 and a half years since I last came here, and almost five years since I posted on this thread of mine...

Life as been going on, and the bug as bit me again. I haven't kept many cacti or succulents but the love never truly died and I have always kept a few here and there.

It's good to be back and I hope I can again be a part of this wonderful community and again share with you all my love for cacti and succulents.

There isn't much to show, but what I have I will share in the upcoming weeks.

Snowcat - Funny you should check in, it's probably been that long for me too, so I was surprised to see this post show up in my email. Same with me, have been starting (mostly) cold-hardy for my "new" outdoor beds. Not quite Moscow weather, but plenty of -10F & then 65F with rain, snow & sleet in-between! Have been expanding more into Yucca & Agave to aid as "Protector/shelter" plants. Still lost a LOT of plants (90%) last Winter & the Opuntia's are still the "anchors" to my beds. Hate to admit it, but spiny/glochidy alive plants, better than beautiful, blossomed DEAD plants ;-)

Hello, and thank you for your replies :)

Hi Snowcat, it's been a long time!!

90% you say?? Wow, that is terrible, hopefully that won't bring you down and you can start recovering and establishing your collection in no time!! Yucca and Agave you say?? It's good to branch out and try new things , I personally have been dwelling more and more on mesembs.

Thank you Elie, it is good to be back. I think so too, it's not a flashy flower, but I always loved it's pure and unblemished yellow color!!

Snowcat - Just noticed your "more hospitable" climate change! No, you know the old gardener's axiom -- just keep planting until you find the right cultivar, subspecies, change up the protection(more rocks), more drainage, etc. Oh yeah, and I've added more pricklies -- chollas, but even those (that are supposed to be Zone 5 & 4) are struggling.

Hello Snowcat.

Yes things have become more "hospitable" and the weather is no longer playing wierd tricks.

Indeed we just have to keep on trying and keep on gardening :)

Time moves on...

One of the rare photos of my Aloe vera, back in late 2013/early 2014. I belive at the time it was on a 15cm wide pot.

As it stands today, in a 50 + cm wide pot

In need of a serious repot, no doubt.

The label should help identifying these seedlings :). Bad choice of substrate...

It seems the more you repot aloe veras the more plants you sill have. I started with 2 tiny offsets 2 yeara ago and now i have this  ](*,)
I like the red color on yours. Mine only manage to turn brown in the sun

Wow, that's alot lol.

The redish color on the tips is (i think) nothing more than cold and/or sun damage. I usually don't pamper my plants, and to be honest i haven't paid much atention to it for over 3 years... Alas it seems to grow better without any attention, like most cacti/succulents :) .

Never flowered for me :(
