Can someone tell me the name of this cactus?

Post by Flora »

Two years ago I inherited several cactus plants. I would like to know what kind this one is. Although it has grown a lot and the green portion of the plant looks healthy, I am concerned about the dark brown stem of the plant, the inch right above the soil. It has turned dark brown and is woody, which is apparently typical of aging cacti? However, this one inch piece has gotten very thin and has a hole in it. There is no sign of rot. Should I have the plant deeper in the soil? What should I do, if anything?Image

That's a Euphorbia, not a cactus. I think E. trigona, but I'm not Euphorbia guy so can't say for sure on species.
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti

Looks like trigona to me also.

I am assuming it is still well rooted. If it is, you don't really need to do anything. They can get woody. If you want put some top dressing on it to cover it uyp.
