Ouch, that looks a little rough.

Will, as long as the stock hasn't rotted, it should callous over, and spurt some growth before our winter hits, though it just might go dormant and not start again til next season.

Its been a nice and hot summer so hopefully it will start new growth but well see, I read that people put cinnamon on new cut or sulfur is this just to help prevent infections?

I've heard something about using Cinnamon, but I can't remember what.

Yikes! It isn't fun losing plants, but to "look on the bright side", at least this is a pretty common one and not a specialty mail order plant or something like that.

I've tried cinnamon on my cuttings and it seems that it occupies any wet spot where mold could get in. Seems to work for me. :)

This may seem from way out in left field, but is it possible I read that powdered charcoal can be applied to cut or damaged areas of a cactus to prevent infection? I seem to remember that from way back in the past. Or did I just dream or imagine it? OMG...am I now having vivid cactus-care dreams?!??

those dreams sound like something I don't want to have. I have already had a nightmare about falling into cactus. LoL

Was it a dream or were you just intoxicated?

Well, I'm certain it wasn't too much Tequila...but, returning to the question, it seems like too strange a thing to come up with for no obvious reason. So, can charcoal dust be used to dry/protect/prevent rot?
