Forum Moderation

Post by hob »

After discussion with Daiv I have now been promoted to full forum moderator.
The main reason for this is to have someone in a different time zone to help deal with the recent upsurge in spam appearing on the board.
Daiv has several other projects that he is working on and I hope this will allow him more time to work on those.
It is not my intention to do any more that that at least to start with.
We have a great site here with a friendly bunch of members and the forum for a large part moderates its self.

regards hob.

Daiv and I have been working behind the scenes to remove spammers profiles.

there is just a chance that we may have deleted the odd legit profile that has not been used for a few months if this is the case please feel free to rejoin.

we caught 5 spammer profiles for sure, these no longer exist :D

Hob, thanks. I often stop by at night on the west coast time zone( AZ doesn't do Daylight savings time) and have noticed as many as 6 messages in an hour! I am glad that you will work to remove the spam, it's annoying. :)

P.S. Also I am glad to have you as a moderator and Congrats on your promotion!
Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti.

Congrats, Hob! :D

There has been more spam than usual lately, hasn't there? But then again we're pretty spoiled on this site -- we're so used to no spam that even a little seems like a lot.

from time to time I've seen one, maybe two spam topics, I had no idea that before I log in there are already that many removed (ptcg: six in an hour).
keep it up! and hob congrats on the promo, I'm sure daiv will have more time for things now!

Yes, Hob! For me it is a mad rush to get everything done before Thanksgiving (Next Thursday). Thanks so much for taking care of those SPAM posts!

Wow Hob, I didn't know that number. It actually is a bit bigger than that as I have found some on my own. I would guess about another 10% more or so. It seems most of it gets posted while I'm sleeping. So it sure is nice to have you grabbing them like that.

if you click on the profile of the newest member, there is a unique number for them in the address bar, take the number of members on the index page

http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/index.php

from that number and the result is the number of profiles deleted 8)

one more to delete on my pm
