Cactus weight loss
Hi everyone, I saw cactus patches on sale in a health shop! You stick them on just like a nicotine patch and apparantly you lose weight.
Sounds pretty crackpot to me, anyone else seen these? Surely the logical way to lose weight would be to have a cactus diet, I reckon the spines would make you think twice about that snack attack.....

Weight loss varies from invidual to individual depending on how much blood you lose
Re: Cactus weight loss
I know this an old posting but the humour aside there are cactus that have been used for centuries in parts of india and east africa. They are known to stave off starvation pangs and release energy from the muscles during periods of nutrient depletion like during famine or on long hunting trips.
One of these is caraluma fimbriata which is still used across India as a vegetable addition to meat stews cuŕies etc. It has a slight sour bitter taste to add flavour to the dish.
There is some scientific research that indicate it does work as an appetite suppressant. Given the anecdotal evidence of decades of herbalist experience and modern research it's something I dont think should be laughed off.
There is some truth in it.
I am going to get hold of some carraluma fimbriata and try growing it in a pot
