Celtic Rose's plants - 2009
I've decided to jump on the bandwagon and start my own "member thread". I'll start posting about all my plants here, except for the Kalanchoe marnieriana which I'll keep in its own thread. There's not much info online about that plant, so I want to make things easy for anyone looking for information on it.
Here's a link to the K. marnieriana thread -- it was updated today. http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11350 If you know anything about this plant, please go to this thread and share.
Let's start with Portulacaria afra, previously seen here:
http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10684
http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtop ... 941#92941.
http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11349
I pruned the large plant today. It was so crammed into a corner of my windowsill that I couldn't even turn it around so that both sides of the plant got light.
Here it is before pruning.
And after:
And here are the cuttings and some leaves waiting to be rooted. Thanks to Buck for telling me how to root P. afra, and thanks to Cuda for instructions on how to root succulent leaves. I won't root all of those leaves -- I'll pick out the ones that look best after they've sat for a day.
Here's the smaller plant.
More to come.

Thanks, Kevin!

And here it is today. Plenty of wool and new growth , but no flowers .
Can anybody tell what's wrong in this picture?

Notocactus notsurewhatyet. Could be a rutilans or a roseoluteus, I'm waiting on a flower.

This one has grown a lot since I got it in January. It probably needs repotting, but I don't want to do anything to stress it since I want it to flower.

Mammillaria vetula ssp. gracilis var. fragilis, or M. gracilis for short.

This is another one that's growing like crazy.
It has two new offsets, and the sharp-eyed among you should be able to spot the beginnings of more in the previous pictures -- all three stems are starting new offsets.
Here are the offsets that fell off the main plant when I repotted it. Previously seen here: http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10688. There were originally six, but only two took. Those two did nothing for the longest time, and I was beginning to think that I'd lost them too, but all of a sudden they doubled and tripled in size almost overnight!

And lastly, the troublemaker that started it all: Mammillaria rhodantha ssp. rhodantha.

This was my first cactus. It turns out that I'm allergic to it, so ever since I dropped and caught it, I make sure to wear heavy gloves whenever I'm handling it.
I bought this thing on a whim in Nov. 2008, and have already had to repot it twice. I don't think I posted a picture when I last repotted it, so here it is in a 6" pot.
As you can see, it's blooming. Except for two short breaks, it's been blooming non-stop since before I bought it in Nov. Here it is this morning.
And later in the day it bloomed.
Just for iann -- an "evaporated" flower.

Thanks, everybody!
@Tony: Mammulosus? You mean I've got a third possibility? Man, I wish that thing would flower!
I potted up the P. afra cuttings and leaves when I got home today. I ended up using two 4" pots. If they take I may bring one of the pots to work and see how well these do under bright flourescent lighting.
You got it, Darryl! I was quite surprised when I looked at that photo -- I hadn't noticed that spine until then.CoronaCactus wrote:Appears to a be a rogue hook spine looking for a different point of view. Can anybody tell what's wrong in this picture?

Thanks, guys!
I think the management of my apartment complex would frown on me drilling holes to anchor a shelving unit. I've got room for one or two more plants.dustin0352 wrote:Pretty soon the collection is gonna get big enough to have you make a shelving unit for the front window.
