Jason's Junk -- '09
Well thanks fellas, all I did was plant em, put gravel around em and water em a couple of times last year, the plants themselves did most of the work......
I hope some of the Opuntias flower, however I think most wont, as they were mostly planted last spring.
John yer right on your description of 'peterpan' its the juvenile form from kelly's site.
I will be collecting some similiar diminuative forms as soon as I get back down to the picketwire canyonlands. I was blown away a month ago by the diversity in the dehydrated plants I found, I may fall over when I get to one spot in particular I have marked on my GPS. It is a big patch of dimunuative O poly v trichophora (piliminary id) that was showing lots of variability between plants, even in their winter state.
peterb, as far as collecting most of the various forms of O polyacantha, ive hardly scratched the surface, and have over 30 forms/localities, and I havent held into any junk. Im sure it will get even weirder when I begin sprouting all the poly hybrid seed I was given a few months ago.
regards,
mendel

more ugly flowers.......
The E viridiflorus seem about to explode. I can smell them from my back porch 30' from the patch.
The P simpsonii are keepin' it real. I counted 6 buds left to open and its been flowering for nearly 2 weeks....SWEET!! AND THEY SMELL GOOD TOO!!!
E viridiflorus (russanthus) v. weedinii and E chloranthus, respectively. They look to the next next in this bed to flower.

Here are some update pics. Sorry I havent been around, my other business has kept me busy, what alot of work spring is, but I wouldnt trade it. It was 91 here today, I guess summer is just around the bend.
E coccineus, franklin Mountains, Tx
E chloranthus, brewster Co, Tx, 5200'
E viridiflorus (russanthus) v weedinii
Anybody know if the chloranthus and weedinii will make hybrid seed if I cross pollinate them?
On a sidenote, there are alot more flower buds on my 'puntias than I expected to have, as they were planted mostly last year.
More to come.....

Oh! Oh!Oh!The E coccineus is super nice.
The chloranthus and weedinii are cool to, but the coccineus is my pick as favorite.
It's always good to see some more of your treasures.
