Ya You Becha! Flurries and strong winds this morning nothing sticking though. Winds are letting up now and snow is done but it will dip down into the mid twenties to night.

My wife was in Minden over the last few days and is coming home tonight. She told me it was snowing while I was on the phone talking with her about how nice it was here! That's how I knew.

Escobaria missouriensis. This form is found in the Northern Great Plains. I collected it in North Dakota.

Ah Nice. I looked up last years picture you posted and it was May 13th, so is this early than usual?

It did bloom a little earlier than last year. I have another that is just starting to show it's buds. It looks like it will be ready middle of next week.

Awesome plants. I'm sure my cacti can relate to the wild temp swings, we're still going from the 30's up to the 80's back down to the 40's and all over again. My Opuntia are in this weird state of not knowing whether to plump up or just leap off a cliff!

John, what's not to love about Escobaria missouriensis? Your large clump is fantastic with so many flowers. Does it ever naturally propagate by seed?

I definatly can relate. Mine don't jump off the cliff they crawl up to the edge and just kind slip over the edge.

Peter my two Dakota plants can't seem to coordinate their breeding season. They are always off by a week. If I luck out this year and get one or two flowers open on the same day. I will have to get the brush out and try a little artificial insemination. The bees are still in hiding this early.

Mine are plumping up but flowers are still a ways off.

Been waiting and watching. This is new to my garden, first time in flower. Echinocereus viridiflorus var. davisii. It opened up this afternoon when the sun decided to finally come out. If we can keep the sun shining tomorrow it may open further.

I thought it would have a flower color more toward the yellow/green range. Any way, nice little fella with lots of buds.
