The Move

Post by parrotsheaven »

Hey everyone

Thought I had better show you what I have been up to for the last 6 weeks

If anyone suggests I move again I think I will ????? them. Not somethings I want to repeat in a hurry a short distance would be the only way I will every do this again.

To pack all the plants in boxes took weeks and then to unpack much the same.

Glad to see you made it in one piece. Looks like you've done this before. Nice job of packing. :) I hope all your plants made the trip, ok.
That Opuntia stem looks massive. They don't know how to surrender with grace, they fight to the end. I know that one has not seen the end yet.

Hello Betty,
I have never moved that many plants around and I do agree, it must be quite a bit of an undertaking. Also, that huge Opuntia stump in your yard is amazing. I do have a number of large Opuntia plants in my plantings, but nothing that looks like that yet! :)
Do you have more room to grow your succulents and cacti at your new location?

Hi Bet, I reckon there were long sighs of relief when you finally cleaned up the last of the unpacking etc. ...Tons of room on that concrete there for more plants!

It has probably since the house was built so it could be 30+ yrs old

Thanks John, I have not moved plants before but did ask lots of questions to others who had
The opuntia stem is quite large 3feet around at its narrowest to 5 feet at the widest

Darryl stress what stress!!!!!!!!! I was nut case packing plants to all hours of night

Thanks Andy, took me a lot of year to build up the collection and was not going to leave it behind.
I noticed the marks only yesterday and it probably is snails as there are plenty around
Wow, I wonder how big that opuntia was before someone hacked it up.
From what I understand it was higher than the fence and took quite a bit to get it out. It was cut back as the previous tenants had small children.

Harald I actually have less room where I am now but as they have always been in pots they fit just fine. Got to do a bit of moving them around when I get time once I have cleaned to yard up a bit.
WOW!! Now thats one heck of a pack and move. You did a wonderful job packing all those plants.. That Opuntia must have been massive at one time...
Thanks Tracey..........I wish I had seen it before it got the chop, but glad it survived

Michael I agree totally now that its over
If you look at the pic where the cactus are by the old messy bbq you will see an old aviary that the door is nearly off............well this is going to be the hot house and a shade house will go up behind the opuntia
Hi Bet, I reckon there were long sighs of relief when you finally cleaned up the last of the unpacking etc. ...Tons of room on that concrete there for more plants!
Hey CP the sighs of relief are still happening  Yep tons of room under the fruit trees and out the front and down each side of the house and ummmmm in the cellar   Could make a great place for the heat mat in winter once I get game enough to battle to spiders and see how big it is

Betty,

WELCOME BACK!

(Wish I had one of those fancy banner thingies, but that will have to do!)

I will echo what everyone said above, congratulations on having completed the move, and it's good to have you back :)

Betty, i have moved house twice in the last few years and will say that even without plants, packing everything you own moving it and unpacking it again is a huge amount of work, throw all those plants in as well it becomes an enormous amount of work.
i am not surprised that it has taken a long time and i expect there are boxes of possessions still waiting unpacking.
most of the plants look to have survived well :D
