It's going to stay inside for the whole winter. Decorations come down January 1st. I've had this plant for well over 7 years. It even has a twin in my daughters room.

Best of both worlds. Carnivorous succulents...pinguicula or the butterwort. While actively growing they have glandular trichomes similar to a sundew for catching insects and need to be kept wet. When dormant they grow your more traditional succulent leaves and need to be kept dry. Bone dry in some species. The flowers are even strikingly similar to some succulent flowers I've seen. They're really a weird divergence in disallowed - see forum rules.

Some I've mounted to lava rock. These love growing on stones and a lot of them grow naturally in their environment this way. Usually on limestone if I remember correctly.

Hmmm...really weird this forum, for a bunch of plant nerds, blocks a scientific word. What is up with that!?

This is simply the prerogative of the person who developed the site. Not sure what their current connection is, but the vocabulary exclusions remain.

Yes, we should be able to write evo-lu-tion. Is Dave still around? Anyone else out here with administrative rights able to take away this childly word blocker?

I wonder, can I write abortian?

Yes, that I can do. Odd difference still, though...

Oh, it's no biggie. Just threw me for a loop. Thought I might have accidentally spelled out a curse word at first  .

I assume you are not a mere minion of Daiv. You are probably a full grown man that can make a decision on his own. You have been given the rights so you can use them whenever a situation might ask for it. If you feel the users of this forum are in need to be verbally tied down, then leave things as they currently are. Otherwise just free things up. This is a biology based forum, I feel there should be room to use the 'forbidden words' if someone pleases.

Those Pinguicula's are quite charming to look at, I must say. I have tried Pinguicula's myself, but have not had much success. Sarracenias and Dioaneaes do better for me.

Thank you! The key is keeping them moist, some wet even, and giving them tons of light. Just like a sarracenia. I actually had a couple growing alongside my sarracenia this past summer. Sarracenia are absolutely my favorite of the carnivores.

Here's some leucophylla from this growing season.

They're very hardy too which is a plus for me because I can just leave them outdoors all year. This pic was taken when it was 14f outside.

I remember telling someone I'd never attempt grafting cactus because I didn't like the look of grafted plants. Well, curiosity got the best of me. Grafted these on December 2nd. Looks like I might have been successful but time will tell.

Funny to see those Sarracenia still well in leave. Mine die off as soon as the cold comes. They are brown, and floppy. Not upright and green like yours. But yours maybe are frozen solid...I leave mine out the entire year too. But it does not get as cold up here. Not every winter anyway. Most days it is around 0C-5C, just above freezing.
