Why did you get a present? Not for your birthday, as I recall it is around ELK time.
Yes Sir - 11.September. . .
Aiko, WHY?
Because i'm such a nice guy?
Cook dinner every night.
Bring flowers twice a week.
Clean the windows. (our pearl cannot do that.)
Go to the tree with the "girls".
Take out the trash.
Water all of the plants on the balconies.
Invite to the museum, opera and concert.
Still writing love letters.
Take her and her friends for a hike.
Say on the phone that she is not home. . . (Children don´t do that
)
Take her to France or Italy for the wine.
To Sweden, Russia, Finland and the Baltic States.
To Holland to eat herring.
To Belgium for the french fries.
And everywhere she wonts.
And of course because she does so much more for me!
Still, even after 31 years. . .
And, although I sometimes lie a little. . .
No, I thing because she loves me and I love her. . .

Hello K.W.,
those are some giant plants that are shown growing in the old greenhouse. I have never seen an Opuntia sp., that did have a stem looking more like a good-sized oak tree than a cactus.
When will the new greenhouses be ready for occupancy by those plants that were dislodged? I still wonder though, if the Cologne Botanical Garden does have as much of a variety of succulents as you do.
Are you going to donate any of your plants or do you still have room to grow your collection?
Harald
Harald,
what should I say?
Yes, they ask me for plants - and it makes me proud to much. . .
Courage!
Best wishes

Did that huge Opuntia survive? Do you know how old it was?
Hello bbarv,
it should be 40 years old - plus / minus 5 years.
Yes it is still going strong.
Courage!

Greenhouse bench height question? Why do benches start so high off the ground? I'm trying to get a handle on what height to build mine. If I start lower to the ground I can fit one more row in. Or is ground level considered a "bench top"
Thanks

Hi Mike,
the height of the tables must have historical and ergonomic reasons.
And there are certainly practical reasons for commercial horticulture.
We hobby gardeners can actually do it as we want.
As long as it's good for us AND the plants.
I put plants right on the ground.
The table top surfaces are approximately 4 feet (125 cm) above the floor.
In between there is a third shelf.
This is filled with plants from "outdoor-dining" in winter.
Winter is the time of rest, then light plays a subordinate role.
The rest of the time, of course, light is important.
That is why the height and depth of the upper table is important.
Also the exposure of the greenhouse to the direction
and how close or far you are building to the equator. . .
Otherwise the plants on the ground will not get enough sun.

K.W. Thanks and wow! Never realized how many greenhouses you have up on the rooftop. I like the build pictures.. And here I thought I was going to join you and growing a collection size. You have everyone beat to the amount of cactus you are cultivating.
Thanks again for the information.
Temps here in the desert are supposed to get down to the 80's during the day and the 50's at night soon. I'll probably have the greenhouse assembled by the weekend. Its a busy week for closet installations.
Thank you again

I don't know if you have access to a drone, K.W., but it would be very interesting to see an overview picture of the greenhouses!

Good morning dear cacti-friends,
Aiko asked for aerial photos. . .
OK, here they are. . .
Of course, a drone doesn't work - so close to the tracks.
My company is on the ground floor. Aaaand the cacti are on the roof. . .
