well, as usual, flowering has really slowed down here in the peak of the summer heat. The days are still near 110F with hot nights, although there is just a hint of cooler nights now. Here's a few flower pics from the past few weeks:
A couple of the nice little Mammillaria estabenensis from Baja:
Rescued Echinocactus horizonthalonius from the Silver Bell Mines here in AZ:
Close up of the hot pink Mammillaria guelzowiana:
Coryphantha ramillosa (I think):
A bunch of photos of Ferocactus sinuatus, two different plants, one from South Texas and the other from Mexico. Seed grown. The larger of the two was in a 2" pot in 2005. It's in a two gallon pot now and outgrowing it. These are not really Ferocacti. They take a huge amount of water in the summer and will grow like crazy given enough heat and sun. They love it here in Phoenix.

Nice pictures, Peter. The Feros at the end look kinda/sorta like T. setispinus (if you squint a little)
The temps haven't really changed much, but I think the shorter daily photo period is causing my plants start growing again. I've noticed lots of new growth, especially on my P. greggii. I had to buy some bamboo sticks today to try to prop the thing up...

the flowers on the larger plant are definitely larger. They are two different seed collections from MG so maybe it's not a function of the plant size.
Yes, D, I know...but I'm not comfortable calling them Thelocactus or Hamatocactus either. Not really sure what they are. I just don't think they quite fit in ferocactus either, and I do think they are different enough geographically and so on to be a good species as "sinuatus," not just a ssp.
Mostly, I just really dig the spines dude!
