Yep, either a Cholla or other Opuntioid is your answer! -fast growing, hardy, and wicked!

Old, but it is still close to the top. A lot of pet stores sell dried out sections of cholla as chew toys for birds and small animals. And I think I have seen a perch for birds made out of it. But it may have just been shaped like it(it was at least coated in an edible something to encourage chewing.)
