Days of my cacti lives - in pictures
Re: Days of my cacti lives - in pictures
They are absolutely beautiful, lovely to see some really mature plants too.
Re: Days of my cacti lives - in pictures
Flowers of M. muehlenpfordtii are quite modest but these spines excite me.
And things are accelerating outside in the rock garden. Even night time is still cold.
That "weed" around the cacti is Sedum acre.

Re: Days of my cacti lives - in pictures
Yes, I do. These are considered hardy to zone 3, growing at 3000 - 4000 m a.s.l in some NW US American states. Can you imagine how cold could be there in winter time? Here in Alberta nothing grows at 3000 m a.s.l. because just in July and August is mainly above 0 C. I live at just 1000 m and seems cold is not a problem for these Pediocactus plants.Arjen wrote:that pediocactus, wow! and you grow this in your garden??
Last flowers. Different coloration of spines & flowers comes from different origin (field numbers) of the plants. Hopefully ants living under my whole rock garden will not mess with the roots of my cacti very much, even I have suspicions about some damaged roots and perished plants.

Well, my Opuntia polyacantha is fully in bud outside.
Others do not mind to be just outside. And this one is inside. Thelocactus setispinus with damaged central grow point (bugs) got some offsets that have buds now.
Some Echinopsis mamillosa seedlings finally got repotted for the 1st time.Others do not mind to be just outside. And this one is inside. Thelocactus setispinus with damaged central grow point (bugs) got some offsets that have buds now.

Another Larryleachia cactiformis. Turbinicarpus schwarzii was next.
All suitable windowsills are taken. Some windows have 2nd or 3rd shelve inside. The summer is here - Gymno's started blooming.

Too many?
Not those - these here are too many. Counted 150 and stopped. Should divide some offsets having roots.

More outside blooms:
Opuntia aurea
E. vivipara - last (4th) flower this season. This plant has been transferred from the habitat (roadside lawn) at younger age.
A mysterious (hybrid ?) opuntia given me some years ago and transferred to the ground this spring turned to have pink flowers as well.

Re: Days of my cacti lives - in pictures
Same indoor cacti continued to open flowers in July too:
E. russanthus did not flower this spring, but the spines are still nice. First flower on this Turbinicarpus I've ever seen. I keep it from 3 or 4 years ago. Some O. fragilis groups growing in the back yard. No flowers, just dropping pads. Among them is a clone originating from Peace River region (British Columbia), the most Northern growing cactus I know about.

Re: Days of my cacti lives - in pictures
Some hailstorms passed over the city last week, not too harsh in my area. Just some segments went down.
These Sulcorebutia seedlings need all the sun they cat get through the glass. These feel better enjoying the heat in recent weeks as well as granite crush - like in their homeland desert. A Brazilian in exile far north. I missed that flower last night.
