If you like spiny things, then you got to love Cumulopuntia boliviana
This is a hybrid Turbinicarpus
probably T. alonsoi x T. swobodae Turbinicarpus subterraneus boolianus
Hidden in a little nook under another pot Mammillaria schumannii flower frenzy Discocactus zehntneri buenekeri
Night blooms with a flash
I thought I better take a photo before it gets de-jointed to be made into 6 plants

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
Nice plants I really like your Mammillaria theresae. I have a few seed grown plants that went half dead on me but I think will eventually re grow?
They germinate one at a time over many years and then grow super slow for me.

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
Growing some at the top , it used to be all green but bad things happened to it over the years so I re potted it in half pumice. I think I have pictures of it on this site showing it a year ago looking pretty sad. I think I let it dry out too much ? Too much sun ? hard to say. it was seed grown many years ago like maybe 20 years.

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
It's been awhile
Unfortunately, all the time I used to spend taking photos and posting is now taken up with planting, making cutting, sifting sand and counting seeds.
Oh the tortures that have to be endured to have a hobbyist succulent nursery.
Let's start off with me and Denise's vacation to Holbrook area.
We go there to collect petrified wood at legal collecting areas on BLM land
We went to one spot 3 years in a row, and walked past these cactus time and time again without seeing them
This year they went plump from the recent rains and were actually quite common
I know it's a Sclerocactus of some kind, but sure on the species
Here is what the area looks like, we just walk around and fill our backpacks up with the stuff, and then walk back the hilly 1/4 mile to our truck with 60 lbs of pet wood weighing down We find pure agatized wood at a different spot

My Uebelmannia buiningii never looked so good
So I had to force myself to take some photos
Some plants just need to be photoed, the timing may be short to get the flowers or colors that are seldom seen
It's not so easy, I have to find some good lighting, get the background from the garage, find the latest memory card I'm using, load it into the camera, set up the plant, move it around, take about 8 photos, and if I'm smart, I will do a couple other plants while I'm all set up.
Some days the lighting sucks, so of course I get lousy photos
and then I have to load them on the computer, edit, reduce, post
It takes hours that I don't have many to spare
so after all that whining...
I will have many seeds as a reward

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
Do you prune the large Pterocactus tuberosus? I find I can't keep the tips from getting spindly. Pruning also seems to promote flowering .
Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
Yes, we do prune our P. tuberosus.
Usually mid winter, we pluck off the spindly growth and only leave couple bigger stems.
And you are correct, the new growth next year will have flowers at the ends of some stems.
The stems are so easy to root, we put them in our garden and they have 4 inch tubers in 6 months.

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
I've already had a couple flower flushes on my Ariocarpuses this fall
Not sure what instigates the flowering, but they usually flower about 2-3 times from September to Late November.
I'll post more photos, I can see many buds forming on the best plants today.
This plant is a puzzler..??
Not sure when I got it, or from who, didn't even notice it until it had this bicolored bloom! The tubercles look like this other A. retusus trigonus hybrid I have, which has white flowers
This is Ariocarpus retusus confuses, which has pink flowers
The tubercles are way different, these are pointed like daggers
I've had these plants for about 7 years and they haven't flowered yet Ariocarpus trginus horacekii
I have another rich in buds You can see some baby horacekiis growing around the base
My one Ariocarpus scaphirostris needs a mate...
So if you know of any for sale or trade, let me know.
