Hi Dodi

Idk Dodi
The wound is very small..like needle puncture...

The only things matter now....is that it heals properly without complication (infection and roting)

Do you have an exp where your cactus is scared, Dodi?
Thanks

My cacti have got scared by rats, birds, squirrels. I don't usually apply fungicide on the damage area but it's better to apply it to be on the safe side. The scared patch would quickly be out grown by new growth

The growth of a tubercle in L. principis

Post by Edwindwianto »

Hi everyone
These photos have been taken in a course of 1,5 month to understand the growth speed of L. principis in these months, in tropical area (Bangkok, Thailand). I tried to take them from the same angle everytime.

Enjoy 😁

Growing condition
1) grown in my standard mix
2) watered once a week with unacidified tap water
3) put under full sun until 10AM, then moved into shaded area
4) fed with osmocote
5) it has been in my care since Jan 2020, i didn't take a note the exact date :(

Conclusion
1) One tubercle needs one and a half month to form (start Febn4th, finish Mar 15th)
2) A new tubercle is formed every 15 days-ish (Feb 4th and feb20th)
3) I don't think that it is a slow grower. What do you think?

Observation
The tubercle in observation has 3 radial spines and no central spine, like any other tubercles before it
Lifle says that it could have 1-2 central spines and 8-14 radial one
The newest tubercle, the one of Feb 20th, produces 4 radial ones
So i guess, the older it is, the more spines it produces

It's just a baby, it will come into it's adult spines soon enough. The real trick is keeping buds on these plants long enough to open into flowers. (at least where I am) I suspect because of the higher humidity where you are, it will be a little easier to keep them moist enough to flower.
Disclaimer: I'm in sunny Arizona, so any advice I give may not apply in your circumstances.

Do you know, is it self-fertile or self-sterile?

Thanks
