a few new ones

Post by peterb »

From Mesa Garden (along with seed for Echinocactus parryi, Neolloydia matehualensis, a cool looking Echinofossulocactus called anfractuosus and the Coke County Echinocereus cloranthus v. "nova," which is called Echinocereus milleri in Powell and Weedin).

Echinomastus durangensis 'mapimiensis' SB1090, complete with flower bud:

Neolloydia conoidea SB379 Terrell County:

Escobaria robbinsorum, SB 464 Cochise County AZ:

Mammillaria thornberi yaquensis, SB2004, Cuidad Obregon, basically a miniature thornberi (which is already sort of miniature). Great spines:

I think they're 3 inch pots, Tony. Tiny but healthy plants, good roots.

A couple flower pics of the E. durangensis mapimiensis from later today, very subtle green/brown pale tones. Remind me of some Ancistrocactus flowers or Toumeya:

Some great additions.

Wait till you see the flower on the yaquensis. Give it some heat and let it color up, then stand back!

You'll almost forget about the spines. IMFO, it's one of the very best mamm flowers.

Cheers ... GeneS

I think Vlad posted some M. yaquensis flower pics recently, but I can't find 'em.

Nice choice of cacti. I wonder what part of Cochise Co. Escobaria robbinsorum can be found in?

Greg, Earle mentions it being found very close to the Mexican border, so perhaps off Geronimo Trail east of Douglas.

Alex, post pics! Michael, durangensis seems very variable. Have you posted a picture of it?
