I need help
Help me, please, I have been looking for the species and name of this plant. It may have came from a package of cacti and succulent seeds i purchased and planted last year. i am not to sure. I will say that it is a wierd plant.
lets see its got a stem that reminds me of a succulent, kinda like a rosette, full of liquid. It has two leaves at the base and from there two above it and on up..(hard to discribe, i know theres a word for the growing pattern to it but i can't think of it right now).
each leave has a rosette look to their underside and a cactus look to their top sides. at the tip of each leaf theres a up to four sets of small inward curving spikes all the way up the plant. Then at the top of the plant it produces little off spring that fall off the leaves when they are big or mature enough. they also have aireal roots..
So the offspring or offsets are easily transplantable and grow pretty fast.. theres another speaciallty of the plant, the plant will let you know when it need to be cut and replanted. speacial parts will just start growing roots off the side and then you can cutt it and it grows almost without any help.. Then if one of the leaves fall off It Too can sprout roots and strat a new plant and have more offsets.
Its crazy.
It so far is 7-8 inches tall and i have already got three plants from it..
Also, some of the off sets are a varigated color and depending on where you grow them the thive differntly. I grow my momma one (what i call her) in the west window and she loves it. grows tall though. i have one in the south window, its varigated and makes more offsets quicker.
I have one now in the north window and i am still to learn what that direction of sun light will help the plant do..
I could only get these two pic. for my camera kinda Stinks..lol..
well i hope theres enough detail there to find out what it is i have.
if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask.
i would like to know what i have growing.
Its a Beautiful plant thats for sure
Thanks for any help
Jennifer

Yes,

Have a look here.

Hi Jennifer, it sure is a beautiful plant, but don't place is near other plants. Soon your pots will be overcrowded with little babies of this Kalanchoe. It breeds hundreds of little ones on the edges of the leaves. To see that is quite a miracle, but you can't get rid of them ever. So: isolate this (again wonderful) plant. greets Harry
ps. 1. Welcome to Cactiguide and 2. this is not a cactus, but a succulent.

Thanks,
I will keep that in mind, i already figured it out to be invasive..lol yes i am proud of that plant for some reason and thanks for the welcome. I am sure i will have Plenty more questions. I own a moderate amount of cactus and succulents. So i figured that it was a succulent.
Also i found out my Kalanchoe is a serratum
Kalanchoe serratum

Hi Jennifer,
Tony, I think the name should be K. serrata. One of the previous names that it carried was Bryophyllum serratum. The bryophyllum genus was an attempt to separate all of those kalanchoes that have the plantlets on the leaves and the beautiful waxy bell shaped flowers. For now they are all still kalanchoes.

I believe your plant is Kalanchoe houghtonii, previously Bryophyllum 'Houghton's Hybrid'.
I grow mine hard (lots of sun, little water) so they are colored up & (most times) leaves are spaced closer together than yours (& a bit thicker). Here are a couple pix:
The lighter green one on the right in the 2nd pic was in some shade.
